HIS 6950 IceQ X Turbo X 2GB
HIS has done a very good job with the 6950 IceQ X Turbo here. They’ve not entirely redesigned the card, but rather tweaked it with a custom heatsink that improves the temperatures and noise levels. Further, the inclusion of a free copy of DiRT 3 adds some great value for consumers.
In terms of performance, our results showed a bit of a mixed bag, with a couple game titles where AMD cards tend to struggle overall, and the lack of PhysX and CUDA which are found on Nvidia cards are obviously not available on any AMD cards. Of course, the other unfortunate downside is that this 6950 can’t be flashed to a 6970 like we’ve seen on a couple other custom 6950 cards. Those cards are hit and miss though, and they do cost more as a result too. It’s no great loss though, as the 6950 is certainly capable of delivering solid framerates and the 2GB of VRAM does help at the higher resolutions. As for Eyefinity, a single 6950 2GB card is the absolute minimum we’d consider for running the triple screen setup effectively though.
So we’ve got a strong card here in terms of gaming value for the money spent. The addition of the free game enhances the value as well. The IceQ heatsink keeps things cool and quieter than the reference design. The bottom line is we’ve got a very good card at a fantastic price with the HIS IceQ X Turbo X 2GB.
