Introduction

The power requirements of enthusiast and gaming PCs have increased dramatically over the last few years, due to the development of ever more powerful and sophisticated CPUs and graphics processors. More power can often mean higher energy bills, and manufacturers have been working on improving power efficiency for their products in response.

We’ve seen 80Plus Bronze certified units become the minimum requirement for modern systems; in fact, they’re nothing to brag about. Silver and Gold rated units have become more popular and commendable, but of late we’ve started seeing a few more 80Plus Platinum certified power supplies, and today we’re looking at one from High Power.

The High Power Astro 700W Platinum power supply is interesting not some massive wattage, premium-oriented unit that costs a fortune. In fact, it’s decidedly mid-range for only 700W, but that’s enough to pack quite a punch for most consumers. It’s got a semi-modular design, sleek styling, and some very interesting and unique features for a 700W unit that comes with a price tag of $180.

Let’s take a closer look at this High Power units and see how it fares.

We often do, but looks like it may have slipped through the cracks on this review. We’ll try to keep that in mind in the future though, thanks for the feedback!
