Summary

Not all memory modules offer the same performance, most notably in the overclocking potential. As we saw today when we ran the G.Skill Ripjaws modules alongside some popular Corsair Dominator sticks in side-by-side comparisons at identical speeds and timings, the G.Skill Ripjaws modules quite simply performed better. The Corsair modules simply did not want to move much from their stock settings, both in terms of latency and speed, and this is clearly problematic for enthusiasts that want to stretch their system. The G.Skill Ripjaws, however, had no such issues and offered flexibility in both timings and speeds.

These G.Skill Ripjaws modules also offer good bit of headroom when going beyond their 1600MHz rated speeds. The tolerances and returns are smaller the higher you go in the speed department, but these modules have sufficient gas left in the tank to reach some blistering numbers on your system. Running 1866MHz (a whole rated speed level higher) is nothing to scoff at. These sticks also proved to be very easy to overclock, and not touchy to voltage tweaks at all, which is always a blessing when trying to find the limits of your memory and overclock settings.

A quick online search shows these Ripjaws modules can be found on sale for about $80 USD, which is in the cheapest price in this range among all manufacturers, and this is an outstanding value for what you get in return. This isn’t really surprising since G.Skill modules have typically been offered at some of the most attractive prices you’ll find. You do get some very capable modules at the listed price.

G.Skill has done an excellent job with these Ripjaws modules, showcasing sharp aesthetics, quality construction, excellent performance, and outstanding value. Unless you’re a diehard enthusiast looking to push some very high overclocks, you really can’t do much better than this, as the Ripjaws offer a complete package in every aspect.
