OverviewHardware: CPU & Motherboards
WHAT WE LIKED:Priced right and offers choices from the single on die GPU to an added 6670 in Crossire or a discrete higher end graphics card.
WHAT WE DISLIKED:Black and grey will flow with any hardware but look is a bit bland,

It has been a while since we have heard from the AMD camp and the release of Trinity infuses some life into AMD. Market conditions have been rather tough but Gigabyte steps up to the plate with their newest edition the GA-F2A85X-UP4. AMD uses a new chipset with the A85 which is based on the same Hudson controller used in the previous A75 chipset.
Gigabyte’s GA-F2A85X-UP4 is the highest tier A85 motherboard, as we will not see UP5 and UP7 with the platform. There is no need for any extreme motherboards with the platform as Trinity is geared for the mainstream market plus the Trinity’s APU has an on-die GPU and somewhat caps the user; however, some may want to use Trinity coupled with another 6670 in crossfire or perhaps run a discrete higher end graphics card. Gigabyte covers all areas with their full line-up. The aesthetics continues Gigabyte’s black mono look with some grey thrown in with the UP4. The scheme should flow nicely with any hardware. The ATX form factor is spacious and will not cause any hardware installation problems. The overall package is well thought out.
Performance wise, Trinity is a winner for AMD as is the GA-F2A85X-UP4. We are not looking at cutting edge performance here but cutting edge technology leading into AMD”s next release, Vishera. The Gigabyte GA-F2A85X-UP4 is an excellent choice for Trinity and at a price point of $135 makes the platform very attractive. Gigabyte get’s a huge thumbs up with the GA-F2A85X-UP4 earning Pure Overclock’s Great Hardware Award.
