EK Water Blocks 4870 X2
Specifications & Accessories
The EK 4870 X2 water block is a full cover block. There are some significant advantages to full cover blocks, one of which is that the RAM chips are also cooled so the ram heat sinks aren’t needed at all. Also the power regulator chips – Mosfets are cooled. The Full Cover water blocks cooling engine uses also fin design. It uses waved channels. The curves increases cooling surface and turbulence. The turbulence in channels reduces thickness of laminar flow which significantly increases cooling performance compared to straight fins. The additional aluminum part serves for cooling the power regulator chips, which needs better cooling if overclocked. Thanks to the cooling engine the block doesn’t need high flow to perform well. The block has low pressure drop and performs well even at low flow. We recommend 1/2" (12mm) ID tubing or 3/8" (10mm) ID tubing.
This is a high performance VGA water block for the Radeon HD 4870 X2 series graphic cards. The base is made of electrolytic copper and the top is made of quality acrylic glass. Back RAM heat sinks are made of black anodized aluminium. The sealing is preformed by quality rubber washer and the block is mounted with enclosed M3 screws. Mounting mechanism and fittings are included. Fittings can be used on both side of the block (up and down), the 2 plugs are enclosed.

The EK 4870 X2 is packaged in a plain white cardboard box, nothing fancy, but I guess you can’t always judge a water block by its box, as the real treat was inside. The box is packaged very well and snug, no worries about damage. The accessories include all the necessary fittings except barbs. Not quite sure why, but those are ordered separately. For such a small and critical item, these should be included in the package our opinion.
Let’s take a closer look at the block itself now.
