Introduction

In our recent review of the Sapphire Radeon 4870 X2 we noted that ATI not only topped the graphics card market but did it convincingly as King of the Hill.  The launch of the 4870 X2 meant a dual GPU solution on a single PCB, and as impressive as its performance was we did have a few concerns, the foremost of which was the heat being produced by this behemoth.  Basically you can barbeque on it, so we had a chat with our friends over at EK Water Blocks to see what could be done about that.  And as luck would have it, they mentioned a new 4870 X2 waterblock that sounded positively enthralling to us.  Being the water nuts that we are, and EK being renowned for manufacturing very high quality water blocks, this seemed the logical choice for a water cooling solution for this monster.

So today we’ll be looking at the EK 4870 X2 waterblock, playing with coolant and tubing and all that other fun stuff in the pursuit of low temperatures for our graphics behemoth.

We’d like to thank our friends at EK Water Blocks for providing the sample for this review.

Started in 1999 by Edvard König, EK WaterBlocks’ aim is to excel in a niche of performance upgrades for computers. With continuous research and development we have established an extensive portfolio of products for water cooling. Quality and breathtaking design on the technological edge is our philosophy. EK has a huge selection of products available for just about every type and model of critical system component.

Let’s now take a look at the EK 4870 X2!
