Introduction

The popularity of the Intel LGA1156 socket has spawned a wide range of motherboards, big and small, cheap and expensive, with features or aesthetics to suit just about any preference. The product lineups run the gamut, as expected, from barebones budget to enthusiast and overclocker premium boards and everything in between. One constant, however, is that consumers generally look for good value in whatever board they decide to purchase.

ECS has typically been known for providing value-oriented motherboards to consumers, and their Black Series products are a great example of that. However, it seems they’ve not been content to simply go after the value-oriented market, have decided to make a push into the premium segment, one that is currently dominated by only a few manufacturers.

The P55H-AK is the first premium LGA1156 motherboard from ECS, and it is quite a distinct departure from previous Black Series products, not only in terms of aesthetics but also features, quality, and overclocking goals. The P55H-AK may be, for all intents and purposes, the dawn of a new direction for ECS and their upcoming products. At least in the premium market.

We’ve been impressed by the value offered by ECS in their Black Series boards, but the P55H-AK is the first we’ve seen that isn’t for enthusiasts on a modest budget; in fact, it’s rather expensive. So, can this foray into the elite enthusiast market bring success for ECS? Let’s take a closer look and find out.

ECS, the Elitegroup Computer Systems, has been a pioneer in designing and manufacturing computer motherboards since 1987. With its 21 years of experience in designing and manufacturing motherboards, the building block of many of today’s personal computers, ECS is expected to remain as one of the major contributors in the IT industry. The company is very fortunate to work very closely with many major chip designers in the PC industry on the design, development and manufacture of future IT innovations. Together with its business partners and its team members around the world, ECS is ready to provide a rich variety of new products and great services to its customers in the years to come.
