Introduction

In the past, low power and performance was an oxymoron, but that’s changed of late with a greater push by manufacturers to produce capable machines that are low-cost and dont’ need a powerplant to keep it running. AMD’s Fusion technology has arrived, and it could be the future of graphics. Intel’s Atom has low power but its performance is lackluster for the most part. Dual core and the Ion helped higher resolutions, but has arguably not been the ideal option setup for an HTPC setup.

HTPC (Home Theater Personal Computer) systems are on the rise as of late. People are looking for a quiet, efficient setup that can harness the need for home theater uses. One of the players on the market with the Fusion technology is EliteGroup (ECS) that has coupled a new motherboard with the new AMD E350 APU. The product is an embedded processor with an on-die GPU and the motherboard we’re looking at is labeled the HDC-I.

Today we will review the EliteGroup HDC-I Mini- ITX motherboard with AMD’s embedded processor E350 code named Zacate. We will look at the performance, potential and value of the motherboard/APU combo. Let’s dive in and see how it performs against the competition.
