Reviews and opinions on AMD’s flagship processor named the FX-8150 (code named “Bulldozer”) show a very mixed bag of chatter amongst the computer world. Benchmarks show the FX-8150 trailing its rival Intel with both Sandy Bridge’s 2500K and 2600K processors in most tests but surprisingly in some; namely multithreading, this new architecture from AMD may be on the brink of something “different”. Only time will tell as the next generation called “Piledriver” and AMD’s “Trinity” coupled with Fusion technology incorporates multi core processing with groundbreaking on die graphics processing.

Socket AM3+ has enjoyed a remarkable long lifetime as AMD shows compassion to their core customer without changing sockets upon new introductions, but how much life does this socket have left? Will AMD continue with two sockets? One for CPU’s and one for APU’s? Speculation aside, looks like one more generation for socket AM3+ as Socket FM2 seems to be the target for future generations CPUs and APUs.
