There are some hallmarks of excellence that make something worth buying: performance, quality, and price. I’m not going to wax poetic here, the MX500 has all of these things. It is stable, less expensive, and out performs its price range. An NVMe is going to out perform any SATA, but at an exceptional cost. As any solid state drive is an improvement over an HDD, the MX500 is the best possible performance for the most reasonable price. In fact, when we look at recommendations for buying a new storage solution for a PC, Crucial gives us something new to think about.
If I needed to recommend one drive to a buyer, I’d want to balance capacity and performance well. A HDD is great for cheap capacity, but I personally prefer to have my games on something faster to smooth out the load times. NVMe has amazing benchmark numbers, but the practical everyday improvements of the drives are not nearly as impressive as the jump from HDD to SSD. Combine a large price for a low capacity and it’s a bit hard to recommend the new technology. The Crucial MX500 is such a great balance of price and performance, it’s my personal pick for a storage solution to your PC. As a result, we happily award it the Pure Overclock Must Have award. You earned it!
