Over the last couple of years or so we’ve looked at many Solid State Drives that feature various technologies in the attempt to boost speed and performance. Some have been successful, some have not. But there’s no mistaking the fact that SSDs are becoming increasingly popular with each passing month. Big improvements in controller technology and performance increases have also been accompanied by dropping prices, making these drives far more affordable to consumers who want to experience life in the fast lane on their computer.

One such company that’s been making improvements is Crucial. Their renowned C300 drive was the first of its kind in achieving a SATA 6G interface, breaking into new speed territory as the leader in performance. But it’s not easy being at the top, as other manufacturers have been pushing things forward. And Crucial has released their latest flagship SSD, the m4.

The Crucial m4 256GB SSD contains an updated Marvell controller that continues to use a SATA 6G interface, able to take advantage of the insane speeds offered by the new standard. And at 256GB capacity, this drive looks to be big and fast, satisfying the top performance that enthusiasts crave. Not only that, but it also comes with a price tag that is very competitve on a per gigabyte basis with the other SSDs on the market.

Well now, we certainly have a tempting combination here with the Crucial m4. Let’s put this SSD on the rack and see what it can do against the other top SSDs on the market.
