From a visual styling standpoint, the Cougar Evolution chassis is rugged looking, with its matte black finish and angular lines. We especially like the Honeycomb mesh grills on the front and top bezel, and how it frames the rest of the case. It really accentuates the matte black finish and the raised silver Cougar logo at the top of the bezel giving it a very detailed look.
The build quality of this chassis is very good for the price point. It is frankly a lot more than we expected. All the amenities are impressive, from the pre-installed washable filters, the removable tool-less hard drive cage and top fan housing, the external Hot Swap SATA HDD/SSD bay, down to a bevy of fan options and a fan controller that offers you control over six fans for numerous cooling solutions.
Let’s not forget to mention the gorgeous clear side panel window, the four tool-less HDD bay caddies, and the six tool-less Optical Drive bays, which along with the ease of installation give you an abundance of storage solutions. With SSDs becoming more and more the “norm,” it was really nice to see an option for either an SSD or HDD in the hard drive bays. Needless to say, convenience and functionality are the hallmark of the Cougar Evolution.
The only real improvements we could note would be slightly more clearance space behind the motherboard tray, and making the routing holes wider to more easily fit bunches of cables through the tray itself as well. Beyond that, there’s nothing particularly fancy here, but we certainly cannot complain for the $90 retail price. Considering the great features you get here, that’s a fantastic price for a full tower.
If you’re in the market for a case that’s rich with features and easy on the wallet, take a good look at the Cougar Evolution.
