Introduction

We all know that graphics get most of the attention where gaming is concerned. New game engines and better graphics may make headlines, but have you ever stopped for a minute and turned off the sound in one of those fancy games? Think about it for a second, when was the last time (if ever) that you simply unplugged your headset or turned off your speakers when gaming? I’m willing to wager you haven’t done it, and if you have, then it didn’t last long. Why not? I’m also willing to wager that it was because the game wasn’t as fun anymore, you couldn’t follow the storyline, or more than likely you just got your ass kicked by some noob because you couldn’t hear him coming before you were shot.

Yes, much as graphics may get most of the attention, it is arguably the sound that makes a game immersive or memorable in many ways. It is that special audio connection that sets the atmosphere. It is also that audio that can mean the difference between life or death in an online multiplayer gaming environment.

Corsair is a company that has been traditionally best known probably for their memory products. But just because that may be one of their mainstays doesn’t mean that’s all they have in their lineup. In fact, Corsair has made quite a splash into other areas of PC component products, including power supplies, cases, solid state drives, and even liquid cooling. Corsair is continuing their foray into the component market, and this time it’s the audio arena with a new gaming headset, the HS1. This set of cans brings convenience and versatility to consumers, as the HS1 is USB-based with some advanced audio features included.

The HS1 looks sleek, is lightweight, versatile, and reasonably priced at about $100 for a premium headset. But what about performance? Indeed, this is where headsets make their reputations, so let’s take a closer look and see just how well the Corsair HS1 gaming headset performs.

Corsair has been a leader in the design and manufacture of high-speed modules since 1994. Our focus has always been on supporting the special demands of extreme gamers. While maintaining this core focus, in recent years, we’ve also brought our expertise, technology leadership and legendary quality and reliability to memory and other technology products for the mainstream consumer. Corsair has expanded beyond memory modules to offer performance liquid cooling units and blocks under our Corsair Nautilus brand and power supplies under our HX Series brand.
