Introduction

New components and companies are emerging in the computer industry everyday, with fresh ideas, new approaches and better efficiency. In order to effectively house these new components cases have in recent years, evolved to amazing new levels. Features that were once considered luxuries, such as good cable management, integrated fan controllers, hot swappable drive trays, dust filters, better exhaust and tool-less design now come standard on most cases. Now that these sorts of approaches are standard, it gives the designers more room for expanding the box to be more…outside the box. This in turn also gives the system builder and modder more opportunities as well.

On the con side of all this hype is exactly that…HYPE. Many companies work hard to capitalize on these trends and features, but lesser capable companies don’t live up to the hype by building cases that are subpar quality and poorly thought-out designs that are nothing more than a bunch of ideas simply slapped together.

So what can we do as consumers to avoid some of these feature packed gum wrappers? First and foremost is to find a company with a very good reputation. A company like Cooler Master really needs no introduction; they have been in business so long that they now have collectors calling asking them to remake some of their vintage cases like the long running ATCS line. They are still in business today because they push the envelope of what a computer case should be, every time making a better case.

Today I will be grading them as such. Is this case better than the last iteration? Did they incorporate new ideas, or did they recycle last year’s HAF design to turn a profit? What improvements and features has Cooler Master has added into the updated design? Is this an improvement in the shape of a mid-tower to improve on the successful HAF lineup?

Let’s take a close look at the new HAF XM and find out.

Cooler Master was founded with the mission of providing the industry’s best thermal solutions. Since its establishment a decade ago, the company has remained faithful to this mission, emerging as a world leader in products and services for companies dealing with devices where heat issues must be resolved. The cornerstones of Cooler Master’s philosophy are innovation, speed, and customer satisfaction. Together, these ensure that Cooler Master is the supplier that the companies around the world rely on to deliver the best thermal solutions, creating a win-win situation both for Cooler Master and the companies that become its customers.
