Taking a closer look at the ColdTears Electronics GOverlay Display we find the unit to be pretty simple, nothing designed to be fancy. The frame is made of black acrylic that has been bent to stand like a picture frame and houses a 2.8″ LCD. One thing we noticed was that the acrylic did attract a lot of dust, making it hard to keep the unit clean as evidenced in our photo.
Flipping over to look at the side view, we find the mini USB port which will allow the device to be connected to your PC or laptop. Simple plug and play here, no other power source is needed.
Taking a closer look at the rear side of the unit, it’s not very large in size. One draw back we find here is that the circuit board is open to air. There is no housing that encloses this circuit board which we feel takes away from the attractiveness of the device, but this is an item that is used more for informational purposes than to be aesthetically pleasing.
Here is another view from the rear of the device. We have a single piece of acrylic that protects the rear circuit board and is held in place by four screws.
Keep in mind that this device isn’t very large, about 3″ length and 2.5″ height. Moving forward we are going to take a look at some of the more critical things that makes this device work… the software!
