I am not sure if BitFenix intended for it to be so, but the Prodigy M has deemed the original obsolete. You now have the same small footprint, better cable routing, better cooling options, better drive locations and the ability to install mini ITX and micro ATX into the same case. For an HTPC, LAN PC or a powerful gaming PC, the $99 for the Prodigy M will be money well spent.

The desktop PC has evolved into a platform for enthusiasts and modders to cram as much gear into a case as they can. Sometimes it is just not practical for taking to a LAN or using as an HTPC due to the size and weight of a custom PC. There has been a concerted effort by some case manufacturers to reduce the footprint of the desktop without leaving the features of a larger chassis behind. We all have grown spoiled to the conveniences of cable routing, drive bays and countless cooling options. This is where the ingenuity and innovation of BitFenix comes into play. BitFenfix, the creator of the popular mini ITX Prodigy case is looking to fill a gap in the small form factor market. Many complained the original Prodigy did not support the larger micro ATX board and felt left out. The Prodigy M with full support for micro ATX and mini ITX boards is said to offer the same flexibility and style of the original Prodigy case with the same small footprint. Let’s take a look into how BitFenix pulled this off.

    Assuming you would build this case with the top fans as exhaust and the bottom fans as intake, do you run into any problems with the PSU exhausting out the bottom of the case and then having that 120mm fan bring that warm air right back in?

      Hey Chad, I don’t see that being too much of a problem since the air will only be slightly warmer air. If you are running both 120mm on bottom then it will not make a difference at all. The PSU heat only matters if you are installing drives on bottom where there will be no fans to move around away from them.


      If this is an issue, I came across a suggestion whereby you have the intake at the top, exhaust at the bottom along with the PSU, then stand the case upside down so the exhaust & PSU are at the top.

      Not sure how practical that is, but I’m making a build with this case soon and will be trying it out!

        This doesn’t make much sense to me. If you flip it on its top there will be no air flow from the now bottom as there are not feet to separate it from the floor or carpet. Bad idea


    is this setup fine?

    2 top fans as intake
    1 bottom fan as exhaust (i want to put a HDD on the floor)
    rear fan as exhaust

    i have the HIS iceq x2 R9 280X and i5 3550 with stock hsf
