Summary And Final Thoughts:
There is much to be said about European engineering and design. The Dark Rock Pro 3 beats any air coolers I have personally tested in the past in both aesthetics and performance. This says a lot about the company and the build quality of this cooler. The performance of the Dark Rock Pro 3 surprised me to say the least, as I was really shocked with its quality and performance.
The temperatures maintained during my testing of the Dark Rock Pro 3 exceeded my every expectation, and after 17 minutes of running at 100% load remained well below the processor’s thermal limits! Although it’s a large cooler by design, this is still a very remarkable feat. To be sure, be quiet! has a sure winner on its hands with the Dark Rock Pro 3. Its unique, quiet-running, dual-tower design compliment its amazing performance. On top of the great design and excellent build quality, even when overclocked, the Silent Wings PWM fan technology a keeps the Dark Rock Pro 3 barely audible as well.
Finally, installation is pretty much straight forward, and the mounting kit is OK to work with. I have to admit that the installation is not quick; the lock down to the back plate is very solid and secure. If I had to nitpick here, it would be that securing to the back plate took some time, and clearance for the MB heat sinks and RAM does present you with a small inconvenience. This basically means just a few extra minutes to complete your lock down correctly and securely. You will also need to double-check your RAM height to insure it will not impede removal or contact the bottom of the cooler.
Because of its great looks, superior quality, and unbelievable performance, the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 cooler has now moved to the top of my list. It easily bests or holds its own with some of the best performing air coolers at this size. With an MSRP of $89.99 U.S. Dollars, the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 is an excellent purchase, and easily garners our Pure Overclock Editors Choice Award!
