Negative

  • We had hoped for better burn quality on our DVD+RW test media.? Please keep in mind that this media does not do well with a considerable number of burners available today, so we are not sure this is a true negative.

Let us summarize the most important positive and negative points below:

The main positive points: Following our tests we found that this drive is an excellent Blu-ray Reader; with very quiet operation, so that we can truly enjoy the playback with emphasizes on the Hi-Def audio. The ASUS SBC-06D1S-U also supports reading and writing to CD-R/RW, DVD?DVD to include DL media as well as DVD-RAM. Based on our tests, the SBC-06D1S-U is able to deliver very good to excellent writing quality on DVD?R media as well as our CD-R media. This drive is quiet and noiseless even when reading or writing at its maximum speed. Reading of Blu-ray media is the foremost feature of the SBC-06D1S-U and that is accomplished with the comprehensive software package from ASUS with CyberLink programs that are provided. The sleek USB cables that both connect and power the drive make this a most definite welcome travel companion for use with laptops for those who are on the go. ?This drive is very versatile and will look great sitting on your desktop at home or on the road.

The only negative point: The issue that we would like to mention with hopes of it being improved is; the quality of the burns to our DVD+RW media as tested but that is due more to the quality of the media than the abilities of this drive.

So to sum it all up, this is what we would say:

?If you are looking to move into the Hi-Def world with a very quiet and reliable Blu-ray reader, this just might be the drive you are looking for.?

Searching online we found this drive selling for around $139.00. (USD)

We?d also like to thank Rima.com USA for providing the Taiyo Yuden media used in this review.
