We’ve seen the AMD 6000 series cards offer some great gaming performance at respectable prices. They’re not the giant killers we had hoped but it’s certainly been interesting to watch AMD and Nvidia battle it out, particularly in the mid-range market where most of the sales happen.

Nvidia has come on strong lately with their 500 series cards but the only card they have in their mid-range lineup is the previous generation GTX 460. It’s a formidable card, but the AMD Radeon 6870 is positioned to have a punch up to continue AMD’s success.

ASUS is a company known for non-reference graphics card designs, and today’s variant is no exception. What’s unique about this 6870 DirectCU is that not only does it have a custom cooler, but it comes a factory overclock and voltage tweaking capability to push very high clocks as well, promising some great gaming horsepower with respectable temperatures and power consumption. Tasty.

Let’s take a closer look at the ASUS Radeon 6870 DirectCU and see what it can do.
