Rather than list every single feature the Maximus III Gene has to offer, we’ll just focus on the major ones, and we’ll also discuss a few in greater detail later in the review.

The iROG is a special IC which enables several ROG highlighted functions that gives users full disposal of the motherboard at any stage! This design allows advanced user control and management to be processed purely at a hardware level. iROG greatly increases fun during overclocking for PC enthusiasts and it offers system maintainence and management with more control and efficiency.

ASUS 8+2 Phase Power Design
With a 8+2 phase power design, 8-phase for vCore and extra 2-phase for Memory controller inside CPU, can provide the highest power efficiency, and hence Generates less heat to effectively enhance the overclocking capability. With the high quality power components such as low RDS (on) MOSFETs, Ferrite core chokes with lower hysteresis loss and 100% Japan-made high quality conductive polymer capacitors, ASUS 8+2 phase VRM design also ensure longer component life and minimum power loss.

Whether novice or enthusiast, TurboV Evo satisfies overclockers of any level. Intelligently push systems to the fastest, stable clock speeds with Auto-Tuning. Turbo Key boosts performance with a simple touch, while TurboV offers additional advanced options for breaking those records!

Auto Tuning
Achieve extreme yet stable overclocking results automatically with Auto Tuning! With built-in stability testing, Auto Tuning lets even beginners improve performance with no additional cost.

ProbeIt takes the guesswork out of locating the motherboard?s measurement points, identifying them clearly in the form of 5 sets of detection points so you?ll know exactly where to get quick yet accurate readings using a multitester.

MemOK! quickly ensures memory boot compatibility. This remarkable memory rescue tool requires a mere push of a button to patch memory issues. MemOK! determines failsafe settings and dramatically improves your system boot success. Get your system up and running in no time!

The new ASUS EPU – the world´s first power saving engine, has been upgraded to a new six engine version, which provides total system power savings by detecting current PC loadings and intelligently moderating power in real-time. With auto phase switching for components (which includes the CPU, VGA card, memory, chipset, drives and system fan), the EPU automatically provides the most appropriate power usage via intelligent acceleration and overclocking – helping save power and money.

Low Internet latency allows you to frag more, and get fragged less. That?s why ROG has introduced GameFirst, a feature that manages the flow of traffic according to your needs so that you can still listen to online music, download and upload files, and engage in Internet chats without sacrificing the low ping times you need to pwn your opponents.

Stack Cool 3+
Stack Cool 3+ is a fanless cooling solution offered exclusively by ASUS. It effectively and noiselessly transfers heat Generated by the critical components to the other side of the specially designed PCB (printed circuit board) for effective heat dissipation – making temperatures cooler by up to 20°C.

ASUS Q-Connector
The Q-Connector allows you to connect or disconnect chassis front panel cables in one easy step with one complete module. This unique adapter eliminates the trouble of plugging in one cable at a time, making connection quick and accurate.

SupremeFX X-Fi buit-in
SupremeFX X-Fi delivers an excellent high definition audio experience to the gamers of ROG and features unique audio innovations for gamers to spot enemies in 3D environment during game play. SupremeFX X-Fi combines the technological quality design of SupremeFX and sound effect technology from Creative Labs to offer games exceptional game sound with absolute quality.

Of these features, a few will be explore here in greater detail, but a few that also deserve mentioning are the solid capacitors and ferrite chokes that improve power efficiency and extend the board’s lifespan, TurboV EVO allows dynamic and auto overclocking control from within the Windows environment (and we’ll examine that closely) and RoG Connect that allows you to remotely monitor and tweak the system voltages and overclock settings from another computer connected via cable. The Go Button allows an automatic adjustment of speeds, timings, and voltages after an unsuccessful memory overclock, for example, to avoid cold boots and annoyances. All of these, when used in conjunction with the ProbeIT voltage leads, are an enthusiast’s dream setup for tweaking and overclocking. This is what makes the Republic of Gamers products special, and particularly the Maximus series motherboards, including the Gene.

Each of these bring something unique to the user experience, so let’s move onto the specifications and then to the board itself.
