Summary

As we’ve seen over the last couple of years, ASRock has been making great strides with their motherboards, moving from lower-end budget offerings to becoming a serious player in the premium market. Indeed, the Fatalty Professional Series is proof of that. We’ve also seen the rest of their P67 lineup, with something to suit just about any preference or budget, and we’ve come away impressed each time. Amyone who still equates ASRock with cheap motherboards must have been living under a rock the last couple of years.

There are a few impressive things in particular worth mentioning in particular. The first is the UEFI BIOS, a groundbreaking innovation that has been decades in the making, or at least decades overdue. The graphical interface and nuanced settings can finally match the hardware they seek to harness, and users will find this new BIOS reach a whole new level of ease of use. There are a few bugs to work out, but considering this is completely new tech we’re not surprised there are some minor teething problems. And they are minor, as ASRock has quite a refined BIOS put together, second only to ASUS amongst all manufacturers from what we’ve seen.

The other feature that left us impressed is the Auto Overclocking feature. While it’s not as nuanced as ASUS’ TurboV EVO solution, the ASRock presets here are rock solid and allow users to maximize their CPU in a matter of seconds, taking out the guesswork of overclocking. Finding the right combination of voltages, settings, and speeds is no longer necessary. Just a couple quick clicks of a mouse and you’ve got the maximum boost your CPU will allow.

Lastly, we applaud ASRock for improving upon their P67 Extreme6 motherboard, which was impressive but had a few design and layout issues. It seems ASRock has really taken the time and effort to push things to the next level, and it really shows here on the Fatal1ty board. The little details that make a difference have been carefully considered and addressed.

After the P67 chipset flaw debacle, Intel has been very quick to remedy the situation, so the B3 Stepping boards will be shipping extremely soon. Don’t let that isolated issue make you second guess the Sandy Bridge platform; it is a performance monster. And the ASRock Fatal1ty motherboard is perfectly suited to take advantage of that.

The ASRock P67 Fatal1ty Professional has proven to be feature-rich and innovative. While the Fatal1ty branding is a bit over the top, that doesn’t detract from what is otherwise an excellent motherboard. ASRock has been on the rise of late, and this motherboard signals a continuation of that trend, providing consumers with some amazing value and performance.
