Introduction

The power requirements of enthusiast and gaming PCs have increased dramatically over the last few years, due to the development of ever more powerful and sophisticated CPUs and graphics processors. During this time, the computer power supply unit has risen in stature from being an anonymous, unimportant component choice to become one of the most fundamentally important components in any modern PC.

While the general trend has been higher energy consumption, there are many consumers that don’t need a high end kilowatt power supply. There is a considerable market for mid-range units to power a single graphics card setup, somewhere around 600W of power.

The Antec High Current Gamer 620W is one such mid-range power supply, appearing not to compromise on aesthetics or functionality. While this unit isn’t a beast like some of Antec’s vaunted kilowatt units, the High Current Gamer is 80PLUS Bronze certified and comes with an attractive price of $80. It seems that good things may indeed come in smaller packages.

Let’s take a closer look at this Antec unit and see how it performs.

Antec, Inc. is the global leader in high-performance computer components and accessories for the gaming, PC upgrade and Do-It-Yourself markets. Founded in 1986, Antec is recognized as a pioneer in the industry and has maintained its position as a worldwide market leader and international provider of quiet, efficient and innovative products. Antec has also achieved great success in the distribution channel, meeting the demands of quality-conscious system builders, VARs and integrators. Antec’s offering of enclosures includes a wide range of cases, such as its advanced Performance One Series, economical New Solution Series and VERIS family of media components designed for the home theater PC market.
