Akasa Nero – 1366
Specifications & Packaging
The Nero features Heatpipe Direct Touch (HDT) technology, which seems to be a big buzzword these days for heatsinks. While the Nero is a tower-style design like all top coolers, the HDT differs from "traditional" heatpipes in that these heatpipes directly touch the CPU instead of a plate. This should theoretically allow greater, more efficient heat transfer since the heatpipes do not have to be attached to a heat plate which can act as a barrier. This certainly is an innovative idea and seems a natural evolution of heatpipe technology, and we’ll see how it performs very soon.
According to Akasa, here are the major features of the Nero:
"Akasa NERO classic design combines peak performance and near silent operation. A multi-platform cooler designed for the entire range of Intel and AMD current processors. 3 x 8mm ultra high capacity U heatpipes are installed with direct CPU contact for rapid heat transfer. Direct contact eliminates a thermal resistance thereby increasing efficiency. 46 high grade aluminium profiled fins ensure optimum heat dissipation. A piano black 120mm PWM fan is mounted using anti-vibration siliconized rubber pins giving whisper quiet cooling.
The product design has been refined to ensure ultra quiet and exceptional cooling for CPU’s up to 150W TDP (Thermal Design Power). Installation is easy using push-pins (Intel) or cam-lever (AMD) mounting mechanism. Akasa NERO can be assembled horizontally or vertically (in desktop or tower chassis) as the heatpipes work independently of installation direction."
The specifications for the Nero are as follows:

The packaging of the cooler is your standard cardboard box. The colours of the box are black with red and white accents and lettering, which mimic the corporate colours of Akasa. There is adequate information to let you know the basics about the product, though the only thing missing is the weight of the cooler; I cannot find it on the box or online. It would be nice to have this information available. When you open the box you will see that the cooler and fan are packed in very thick foam.
The accessories are extensive and well-made, there are all the necessary mounting brackets for various AMD and Intel sockets, rubber fan mounting grommets, installation manual, and thermal paste.
