Introduction

Gone are the days of the garbage add-on power supply housed in the cliche grey box, featuring cables no longer than your forearm. Nay, consumers have smartened up to the realities and importances of modern technological requirements, not to mention protecting their investment with some quality core components, one of which is the modern power supply. Yes, they come in various models and makes, wattages and colours, with manufacturers now offering a wide selection of choices to discerning users forking out some of their hard-earned money. And with systems typically consuming more and more power with each generation, the once-lowly power supply now occupies a place of honour and prestige in a computer system. Yes, power and energy. More horsepower, as it were.

Which brings us to our topic of today and a very nice segue, if I do say so myself: the AeroCool Horsepower 650w power supply. It is marketed for enthusiasts (particularly gamers), has a price tag to match several name-brand competitors, and sports some nice features including colour-coded modular cabling and LED lighting. Certainly looks promising, so let’s get down to business and juice up this unit.

Thank you to our friends at AeroCool for supplying the review sample.
