Introduction

We’ve seen SandForce-based solid state drives become very popular over the last couple of years, prices have continued to drop and consumers are taking notice of the impressive overall system boost that SSDs can offer. Today we will be taking a close look at the cost effective drive offering from ADATA, the S510 120GB SATA III drive. The primary reason for the lower cost is ADATA’s choice of asynchronous (Async) NAND flash memory. This drive is similar to the OCZ Agility, Corsair Series 3 and OWC Electra.

Async SSDs can provide as much as $100 in savings verses a SSD that uses synchronous (Sync) NAND of the same capacity. The trade-off for value is performance, Sync SSDs do provide faster transfer rates as well as reads with incompressible data. Does this matter? Well, Yes and No. How so? Let’s find out as we will see in the following review.

Founded in 2001, ADATA Technology is committed to providing top-notch memory solutions that enrich the customer’s digital life. The company’s dedication to integrity and professionalism has made ADATA the leading memory brand with the most award-winning product designs. ADATA offers complete memory solutions including DRAM modules, USB flash drives, memory cards, solid state drives and portable hard drives.
