Gigabyte X399 Introduces Aorus Xtreme Motherboard
The Mother of All Boards
I’m a huge fan of Gigabyte’s Aorus branding. The latest addition to their lineup is the X399 Aorus Xtreme motherboard. Since Threadripper Gen 2 is about to release, it makes sense that we’ll see some board refreshes. It looks like the Xtreme pulls out all the stops. The design continues what the X470 Gaming 7 introduced in fins on the heat sinks, RGB covers and addressable lighting. That said, there is a large gamut of solid performance features as well.
There is more features than a news writer can shake a stick at, but there are particular ones I want to point out. First, we have two 8 pin power connections for the CPU. This isn’t the only board that does it, but it’s a bit of the exception and offers lots of power for overclocking. We already mentioned the heat sink fins, but Gigabyte also includes a dual fan design to help further lower temperatures. In order to get the most out of network connections, an Aquantia 10GbE controller is added on top of dual Intel GbE ports. Also, I know I go on about Aorus audio, but I love the inclusion of the SABRE HiFi DAC. The 32-bit sampling seems to help particularly with music listening quality. There’s a lot more that could be mentioned, but I just want to highlight one more thing.
ONE HOT MOTHER….Board
Aorus style is my absolute favorite. Gigabyte decided to keep an elegant, yet neutral color scheme on the Xtreme. The platform is black, but there’s just enough highlights of silver and white to make the base product look gorgeous. Even the lighting seems to strike the perfect balance. A builder can add a decent amount of design flair, but there isn’t so many LEDs that it stands out as a bit immature. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I absolutely LOVE my X470 Gaming 7 and the abundance of lighting is a huge reason why. However, professionals might prefer something a little less loud.
It wasn’t too many years ago that Gigabyte looked like a company that had almost given up. Today, they stand out as a leader among the motherboard manufacturers, at least to me. Now before this post gets too high in praises though, let’s remember that everything comes with a price. In the case of the X399 Xtreme, that price is $449. I’m sure your eyes are watering right now.
