Noctua NF-A12x25, One Fan to Rule Them All
I wouldn’t blame you if you thought Noctua couldn’t add any meaningful design improvements to their fans anymore. However, it looks like the company has found yet another way to improve on what already seemed like a flawless design. By using a new liquid-crystal polymer called Sterrox, the fan blades can be precision machined with only a 0.5mm space to the frame edge. The NF-A12x25 fan series is going to be one fan for every application, and Noctua even paved the way to add these fans to 140mm radiator slots.Fans typically come in two varieties. Normal case ones have high airflow, but need plenty of open space so the air pressure doesn’t get pushed backwards out the edges between the blades and the frame. The other fan types have a high static pressure, meaning air is forced better through tight spaces like radiators or heat sink fins, but typically have less air flow than case fans. The Sterrox material sounds like it fixes both of these problems. Because the blades are so tight in the frame, it helps ensure that air keeps moving in the direction it was intended to go. With the physical design of the blades to the frame fixing static pressure, the rest of the design can focus completely on maximum airflow-to-noise ratio. One fan to rule them all!
Of course Noctua only has 120mm variants, and it may be a while before this new design makes it over to the 140mm variety. That’s why the company introduced the NA-SFMA1 Adapter Frame. Take any of these new designs and install them to your larger radiators. Of course the real test of these fans will be seeing how well they can improve temperatures when installed on CPU heat sinks or radiators. It may turn into a mere amount of marketing hype, but I really don’t feel like that’s going to be the case here. Check out the links below for more information and we’ll catch ya’ later!
