A $200 Enterprise NVMe 960GB That Is Cheaper Than SATA Drives?
Yes, sir! That’s exactly what is currently available over at Newegg for $199 right now.
If you need an SSD, on any budget, there’s pretty much an option there for you somewhere. You can spend anywhere from the mid-$30 range into the hundreds with ease.
Now, the drive in question is a Samsung MZ1LV960HCJH – or an OEM PM953 in more layman’s terms. It performs between a normal SATA drive and a higher end NVMe drive. It’s speedy enough for most people, and would make an excellent games drive. As it is targeted at the enterprise market, endurance is often a little more important than raw performance. You’ll be able to see speeds of up to 1 GB/s reads and 820 MB/s writes, but the write performance isn’t too great at only 19K IOPS – a tad slower than typical SATA drives. One other key selling point is that it features “Enterprise-grade power loss protection” which will hopefully keep your data safe in the event of a sudden power loss.
It is a 22110 (110mm) drive, so be sure to check for compatibility before pulling the trigger on what seems like an awesome drive for the cash. In fact, I am very tempted to grab one for my gaming rig. Less cable clutter is always a bonus!
