A Season’s Thought from Pureoverclock

The holidays have become a very controversial time in the past years. We deal with shrugging off Santa Claus because he isn’t real, we watch schisms being formed because of hotly contested religious themes and complain about how consumerism has ruined Christmas. Amidst the misery that becomes the holidays, many of us can sit around just waiting for it to be over. Maybe we would be better off without the holidays? I’ve heard a lot of negativity this time of year. Everyone seems too busy. Everyone seems to be annoyed about one thing or another being pushed down their throat. Everyone seems to be financially strapped. I look around and I have nothing but pity for those who have so many problems to go through during this time of year. I began thinking about everything I’ve ran across this season and I felt a well of depression. What happened to the days of old, when I was a child, when this time of year was happy and magical? As I thought on it more, I began to realize that the problem was not so much with the world around me, but with the heart inside of me. Since I have small spheres of influence and can only do so much as one person, I felt the least I could do is try and bring some encouragement to my friends at Pureoverclock. Why do we believe in Santa Claus? I don’t expect you to believe in a jolly fat man that lives in the North Pole, but I do believe in the ideal of bringing a better life to those unfortunate souls who can not bring one to th...

Biostar launches ‘exclusive’ A70M chipset FM2+ board

Biostar has announced a deal with AMD to launch a new FM2+ motherboard featuring an exclusive chipset, the A70M, designed to offer competitive features to the A68H and A58 chipsets at a lower price. Available exclusively on Biostar’s latest A70MGP motherboard, the A70M chipset packs in the most commonly-required features of its more expensive equivalents. Full support for quad- and dual-core FM2+ and FM2 processors, including both the AMD A-series and E2-series accelerated processing units (APUs) is featured as well as the Athlon II X4, along with support for 32GB of DDR3 memory across two DIMM sockets, four SATA 6Gb/s ports and two USB 3.0 ports at the rear. The board itself, meanwhile, uses a compact micro-ATX form factor. Before getting too excited, be aware that the new chipset does come with a few corners cut. The internal headers are USB 2.0 only, while the board features neither a DVI nor an HDMI connector for on-chip graphics; instead, users are forced into using an analogue VGA connection or installing a dedicated graphics card on the board’s PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot. Interestingly, this slot is joined by both a PCI-E 2.0 x1 slot and a legacy 32-bit PCI slot – a commitment to older peripherals which is continued with an internal RS232 serial port header and externally-accessible PS/2 port above the rear USB 2.0 ports. Pricing for the new board has yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to launch for less than its rival A68H chipset systems. Full...

BIOSTAR Introducing Built-In LAN Surge Protection For Motherboards

BIOSTAR Introducing Built-In LAN Surge Protection For Motherboards December 22nd, 2014, Taipei, Taiwan – BIOSTAR is introducing a new design for the boards, whereby they are adding an integrated chip to strengthen electrical stability and prevent damage from lightning strikes and electrical surges. BIOSTAR is the first Motherboard manufacturer to offer motherboards with these features and specifications so called “SUPER LAN Surge Protection”. Going forward, all BIOSTAR series products will incorporate this technology. PC systems can be damaged or destroyed by electrical surges. These are voltages which are much greater than the normal working voltage and which appear in a system for a short period of time. BIOSTAR “SUPER LAN Surge Protection” wants to insure that the motherboards have a high degree of protection from such surges by the use of hardware devices, directly built into the motherboard, which limit surge voltages reaching protected equipment to safe levels. Look for these new boards at: http://www.biostar.com.tw About BIOSTAR MICROTECH INT’L CORP. BIOSTAR, a manufacturer dedicates in motherboards, graphics cards and industrial computing systems. HyperX Predator DDR4 Memory Review (HX430C15PBK4/16)

Introduction The HyperX name has been part of Kingston Technologies for the last decade, but recently HyperX migrated into its own branding although still part of Kingston’s sub division. While the name or branding may be different, the company’s philosophy and product image hasn’t changed much. Today we have the chance to take a look at the HyperX Predator series DDR4 memory line. DDR4 memory launched with Intel’s recent X99 Chipset featuring lower voltage with higher native frequencies. It features a native speed of 2133MHz, which is really nothing to WOW about as we have seen these speeds with DDR3. However, with its newer JEDEC Culmination and Density, DDR4 memory components now provide better speeds and faster response while being more power efficient at the same time. The HyperX Predator memory we are going to be looking at today not only offers fast speeds of 3000MHz out of the box, but also offers the efficiency of lower voltage; we can see some great potential with additional performance once overclocked. We will be comparing results from Kingston’s (HyperX) previous line up from its DDR3 series to see if these claims line up.   Before we move forward, let’s read a bit about Kingston:   “Founded in 1987 with a single product offering, Kingston Technology now offers more than 2,000 memory products that support nearly every device that uses memory, from computers, servers and printers to MP3 players, digital cameras and ...

Introducing CableMod

Introducing CableMod Premium Cables Turn PC Systems Into Works of Art (December 19, 2014) – For years, outfitting a PC with custom cables has been a time-consuming and expensive endeavor. Modders have had to either do it themselves, spending hours upon hours sleeving their power supply cables individually, or spend hundreds of dollars on expensive cable sleeving services. Alternatively, they could choose sleeved cable extensions, but would have to put up with increased cable clutter due to physically longer cables. What if there was a better way? Introducing CableMod® – the first brand dedicated to designing and producing the very best internal PC cables on the market. Developed with input from top modders from around the world, CableMod cables bring premium quality and aesthetics to the next level. CableMod cables begin with ModFlex™, a premium cable sleeving that brings with it a slew of advantages over traditional sleeving. This sleeve is constructed with ultra-fine fibers that are many times softer than nylon sleeving, making it much easier to route behind motherboard trays and around components. The super dense weave means that wires underneath are completely invisible, making sure that ugly bare wires are hidden from sight. Best of all, this sleeve is developed to be thinner than competing cloth braiding, which makes it possible for CableMod cables to forgo the use of unsightly heatshrink all together. In fact, CableMod cables are 100% heatshrink-free,...
