Thecus N2310 NAS Review

Introduction Most home based networks normally end up sharing files stored on computer systems, whether it’s a dedicated file storage system or a number of different systems sharing files. It takes a lot to maintain these systems, not to mention the power they use to just share movies, music, etc. While this may have been the most efficient way of consistently sharing files between each other in the past, Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices were extremely expensive when they first came out, and mainly advertised towards businesses for data storage. But what if you could have your own NAS device sharing all your memorable pictures, movies or even music? And, not only to your own local network but also accessible to authorized users across the globe? Introducing the Thecus N2310 NAS. Though not as powerful as the N2560 and N4560 released earlier this quarter, the N2310 still packs in a lot of the features of its pricier siblings. It’s also a more affordable way to utilize these features with safety in mind, knowing that your files will be safe and available where-ever you may be. Before we get started, let’s read more about Thecus. In today’s networked world, digital content is truly the most precious asset. At Thecus, we take pride in developing innovative storage solutions that keep data safe and secure. Founded in 2004, the Thecus team brings decades of R&D expertise, Thecus brand marketing channel development, and a strong customer fo...

MSI Raises the Bar with Next Gen Motherboards

When it comes to Motherboards, Asus is a name that really stands out. I’m not saying that they’re the perfect manufacturer, but they are known for products that perform admirably while being rich with features. As far as overclocking is concerned, Asus boards are some of the best on the market for reaching stable and high clocks. This leaves other manufacturers with a great deal to live up to when they try and release a board that can compete with the current market. Fortunately, MSI is looking to not only compete, but win in the high end motherboard market with their new Gaming Series and OC Motherboards. While I’m sure everyone is dying to know about Intel’s next chipset, those features are going to be far from what is going to set MSI apart. To begin with, the overclocking potential looks like it’s going to raise the bar quite a bit. The DigitAll Power feature provides digital control for increased stability. While that is becoming a more standard feature for overclocking boards, there’s more details sweetening the pot here. First, there’s water cooling connectors added to the heatsink and an optional OC Fan Stand the sits securely to the motherboard for better air flow control. Next, the board comes with a host of buttons for things like going straight to the bios and even being able to completely clear the cmos without removing the battery. The most revoltionary feature though, is the ram overclocking utility in the Bios. The...

Kingston 64GB DataTraveler Locker+G3 USB Drive Review

Portable storage devices like USB thumb drives have been around over the last decade or so. Despite this, we are starting to see a much higher use from such drives in the last few years, especially with capacity on them being larger and faster. However, sometimes storing data on such drives can increase the risk of having your data easily lost or stolen. Well, today we are going to be looking at a new Kingston 64GB DataTraveler Locker+ G3 USB 3.0 thumb drive that aims to help with that. What's so different about this drive? It includes some extra security which requires a password to access the drive! Kingston released a software based USB drive that will only give you access to the drive once the password you set up is input. The password encoded drive will help secure all the files stored, which will give you piece of mind that your data is safe for traveling or normal every day use. Today as we continue forward, we are going to test the Kingston 64GB DataTraveler Locker + G3 in multiple scenarios to evaluate the performance, security and reliability of the drive.

ASUS A88X-Pro Motherboard Review

When AMD announced the launch of the new FM2+ based socket for the up coming "Kaveri" APU Processor, manufacturers were in full force with the launch of new motherboards. Over the next few weeks we caught a glimpse of the up coming releases, and its design and aesthetics caught our attention. In the past, we have seen some nice products for the APU socket line, but the motherboards were never as fancy as some of the enthusiast boards we have come to see with the higher end chipsets and processors, like the AMD FX Series, the 990FX chipset line. With AMD's FX Series road map unclear, and AMD's APU series processors rising success, it was only a matter of time before we start to see more enthusiast style motherboards hit the market. Today, we have the pleasure of taking a look at an ASUS motherboard that sports the fancy aesthetics and brings to the table the full enthusiast experience that the APU market has missed out on before. Today we have the ASUS A88X-Pro Motherboard which runs the flagship A88X chipset. This is one of the 3 chipsets launched for the FM2+ based Kaveri APU. So, the question that most of us have today is does all this fancy aesthetic meet the demands of an enthusiast's desire? Well today we are going to put the ASUS A88X Motherboard to the test and find out.

VisionTek CryoVenom R9 290 Review

It has been several months since AMD shook up the GPU market a bit with its R9 series of GPUs. Now that the dust has settled there has been time for AMD partners to design better cooling solutions for the Hawaii based GPUs at the top end of the R9 lineup. When the 290 and 290x first released there was a firestorm of complaints surrounding the massive amounts of heat generated and the lack of significant cooling solutions. Basically the reference design cooler was a major flop that actually caused performance loses. The 290 and 290x GPUs were known to throttle down to lower core speeds to stay within the thermal envelope. In some cases, this resulted in a 290 outperforming a 290x in benches or other counter intuitive results... OUCH! AMD partners proved to be up to the challenge though, releasing GPUs with their custom cooling solutions that offered better heat dissipation without adding to the noise penalty suffered by the reference cooler. This is all fine and dandy, but where does any of this leave the hardcore water cooling enthusiast? It leaves many researching to see which GPU from each manufacturer is and is not compatible with certain water blocks and adding additional cost to an already costly product. One of those OEMs, VisionTek, wanted to lend a hand in this process by taking away all guess work, and even the installation. They are now offering a GPU which comes ready to be incorporated into a custom waco system out of the box. I am happy to introduce the Cry...

Enermax T.B. Vegas 120mm and T.B. Apollish 180/200mm Fan Review

When you look at most of the LED case fans out there, they're largely uninspired. Sure the lighting is solid on many of them, and some of them even offer up good cooling performance to match their look, but the lighting effect is ultimately the same: just a blob of light that looks like it could come from any manufacturer. While that may work for some system builders, Enermax has a solution for those of you looking for something a bit different than the rest. Enter the T.B. Vegas and T.B. Apollish fan lineup: coming in 120mm and 200mm sizes respectively, these fans feature not only some of the most unique case lighting you will ever see, but offer a degree of performance that you will be hard pressed to find in any other standalone LED fan. Let's see if these factors add up to be greater than the sum of their parts, shall we?
