One of the most exciting things about reporting on solid state technology is being on the cutting edge of advance and having the opportunity to introduce introduce next generation products to the world. This morning is a perfect example of just that and we guarantee our review of the first official 12Gbps SAS SSD will be one of one a very select few having their hands on a similar solution. As a comparable, it is like being the first two demonstrate a twelve cylinder engine in a world of eight. 12Gbps SAS is not entirely new though as it has been demonstrated by manufacturers for a few years now, the problem being of course that fine tuning, and lack of hardware to allow its proper implementation and testing, have kept it out of the hands of the world. Our introduction and review of the Ultrastar HGST SSD800MM 400GB 12Gbps SSD changes all of that. The beauty of this report though is enhanced by LSI who have graciously provided their new, and as of yet unannounced and unreleased, LSI SAS 9300-8e HBA. The introduction of Intel's new "Haswell" line of processors also brought its new 8 series chipset. The introduction of Haswell and its socket and chipset change came as no surprise. We have seen this from Intel with its "Tick Tock" development strategy, including their change to its power delivery management. It makes sense and was crucial for Intel to make these changes. Today, we have a chance to look at one of MSI's flagship motherboards for the new Z87 architecture: the MSI Z87 MPower. MSI's previous products in the Z87 chipset MPower line were typically top performers, and include excellent overclocking and features. Today, as we move forward, we are going to see just how the MSI Z87 MPower measures up to that previous reputation while using the new Haswell 4770k. Before we move forward, let's talk a little about MSI.
