Editorial: BitCoins & LiteCoins; Mining the Future?

  We have a slightly off-topic story to share with you guys today, but it is a subject that is garnering great interest around the world especially in the technology and financial sectors. That subject is the new internet digital currency called bitcoins and/or litecoins. Interest in this subject has been growing at a rapid pace and it has even been showing up in the main-stream media very often lately. News organizations from Yahoo! and Bloomberg to CNNMoney and the Wall Street Journal have been increasing their coverage of the strange virtual money phenomenon. If you haven’t heard of bitcoins or litecoins, don’t feel too bad, it’s still a fledgling trend despite having been around since 2009. Furthermore, it has mostly been the purview of very computer/tech savvy folks. Let me attempt a brief and crude summation to help you understand the concept. A developer using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto created bitcoins in 2009. The true identity of this developer has still never been conclusively found. The idea he/she started was a digital virtual currency that exists because of its relative value due to its rarity and the faith that backers are willing to put into it. This virtual currency has no central banking nor any controlling central authority. It instead relies on peer-to-peer network sharing. Crucial M500 SSD Now Available

Crucial started shipping its M500 line of consumer SSDs. Available in 2.5-inch SATA (7 mm-thick), mSATA, and NGFF M.2 form-factors, the drives combine Micron 20 nm MLC NAND flash with a Marvell-made processor. All three form-factors take advantage of 6 Gb/s SATA. The drive is available in 120 GB, 240 GB, and 480 GB capacities for all three form-factors, while the 2.5-inch gets a 960 GB “terabyte-class” capacity option, as well. Sequential read speeds on all capacities are as high as 500 MB/s, while sequential write speeds cap out at 130 MB/s and 250 MB/s for the 120 GB and 240 GB variants, respectively; and reach 400 MB/s on the 480 GB and 960 GB variants. The drives are backed by 3-year limited warranties, 1.2 million hours MTBF, and 72 TB total bytes written (TBW) write endurance (that’s 40 GB per day). TRIM, NCQ, and SMART are standard issue. The 120 GB, 240 GB, 480 GB, and 960 GB variants are priced at US $129.99, $219.99, $399.99, and $599.99, respectively.

ASRock 990FX Extreme 9 Motherboard Review

When it comes to looking for an AMD motherboard with the 990FX chipset, there are few new options right now. The 990FX chipset from AMD has been around for more then a few years now and we have recently only seen manufacturers doing revisions to the existing chipset boards. We are unsure on when the launch of a possible new chipset will be for AMD so for now it looks like it will remain at the top. GELID Launches SlimHero Silent Low-Profile CPU Cooler

Thermal Solutions specialist GELID Solutions unveils the SlimHero which is a low profile CPU Cooler of its SILENT product line. The SlimHero features 4 sintered power heatpipes with a silent and slim 120 mm fan. The copper heatpipes ensure maximum heat transfer from CPU to the aluminum fins.
