New Intel Chipset Drivers Bring TRIM Support for RAID Setups

Posted March 22, 2010 by jeremy in Hardware

The TRIM function in Windows 7, Server 2008 R2 and Linux 2.6.33+ is something that all SSD owners should enjoy, unfortunately that’s not the case for those with drives that do not support TRIM or for RAID users. Actually, scrap the last category cause not all RAID users are TRIM-less thanks to a new driver for Intel chipsets that enables TRIM on almost all setups (RAID 5 is apparently the exception).

Available [url=http://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail_desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=&DwnldID=15251]here{/url], the driver will add TRIM support only if all the drives in the RAID configuration are TRIM-enabled. If this requirement is fulfilled then rejoice, you can have TRIM working for you in the background to maintain the super speeds of your RAIDed SSDs. Happy days indeed, now hopefully AMD users will get something similar.
