The Intel Core i7 975 will be the new flagship processor, coming in with a clock speed of 3.33GHz. Since it will be replacing the Core i7 965, chances are the 975 will be an Extreme Edition chip. This also means that it will likely have a $999 price tag if history is any indication.

Intel will also be releasing a Core i7 950 CPU, featuring a clock speed of 3.06GHz, essentially replacing the current 2.93GHz 940 model, and will have a price tag of $562.

New Core 2 processors will also be released in the refresh. A quad core Q8400 will be available in a regular and an “S” version, both of which will be clocked at 2.66GHz. Presumably the “S” version is a die shrink 65nm, though it’s not yet been confirmed. All of the above processors should be launched on May 31st.

As you can see, there will be a few other chips on the budget end of the spectrum that will be receiving price cuts as well.
