Windows Mobile sales fall short of expectations

Despite experiencing great growth, the smartphone-prone operating system sold 18 million licenses which is 2 million short of Microsoft’s goal for the full 2008 fiscal year.

The reason given for missing the target was the delay of certain handhelds but Microsoft remained reasonably diplomatic by not giving out any names and saying that Windows Mobile has even so managed to steadily increase its market share with unit sales growing faster than the smartphone market. Fair enough.
