July console sales fall, Wii remains victorious
Nintendo?s Wii claimed a market share of 56%. If we include the 155,000 units of PS2s that were sold in July, the Wii held a share of 49%.
Total Wii sales now stand at 11.56 million; Microsoft sold 10.67 million Xbox 360 units and Sony 5.08 million PS3 units in the U.S. so far.
PS3 sales were surprisingly weak during July, especially when we consider the strong showing in June. It was unclear how Microsoft?s decision to discount the 20 GB version of its Xbox 360 impacted July sales, but compared to its competition, the unit sales result of the Xbox 360 in July is impressive. At least in July, Microsoft did not give up too many units in terms of cumulative sales to Sony.
