GT200’s successor to adopt GDDR5, DX10.1
On the desktop front, the successor to NVIDIA’s GT200, is expected to see the light of day in late Q4 2008 or, within the first quarter of 2009, according to the report. NVIDIA’s next generation notebook solution, on the other hand, is expected to launch next spring.
At this time, it is rumoured that NVIDIA’s GT200 successor will boast 1.5 to 2 times the speed of current technology offerings, however AMD isn’t likely to rest on its laurels and has the, perceived advantage of, DirectX 10.1 API support now, with a clear and convincing head start.
Apparently, NVIDIA will also adopt GDDR5 memory, perhaps as soon as Q4 2008, subject to increased module availability. We would surmise that a GT200 refresh would probably be the first NVIDIA solution offering GDDR5, perhaps to test the waters.
