Planned to be the socket of choice for AMD’s DDR3 Opterons which will arrive in 2010 and after, the G34 features some 1974 pins and will make its debut in motherboards powered by AMD RD890S and RD870S chipsets.

Enabling the use of four HyperTransport links, the G34 socket will support the 2010-bound 45nm-built Sao Paolo hexa-core CPU and the 12-core Magny-Cours Opterons, as well as new, octo-core server processors in plan at AMD. Until G34 arrives though, AMD will still have to deliver the Shanghai Opterons plus the desktop-oriented 45nm Phenoms.
