Asus announce HD 3850 X2, pictured naked
The card also features two 6-pin power connectors, as opposed to the one 6-pin and one 8-pin found on the HD 3870 X2.
Already announced through the voice of Asustek, the Raden HD 3850 X2 the second card to utilize two RV670 chips but, as the photos below depict, it doesn’t have the same layout as the 3870 X2. Still taking up two slots, the new card has a much cleaner but very cramped layout with all 16 GDDR3 memory chips being on one side flanking the two RV670 GPUs and the PCIe bridge chip. The back of the card is clean as a whistle with the only thing ‘sticking out’ being the CrossFireX connector.
The board will cost a little over $300, giving Nvidia’s 9800 GTX the competition it deserves. Asus’s official announcement can be found here.
