Kinc, Crotale reclaim 3DMark 06 record – 29,147 points

Marcus and Robert have been at it again (not in that way!), and while we haven't heard much of them lately, let alone any record breaking attempts, they've managed to reclaim the 3Dmark 06 record at DreamHack. Prior to today, Kingpin, Hipro and Shamino held the record. Using a Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (432x13, 5501MHz), an ASUS P5E3 WS Pro, two Radeon HD 2900 XT's at 1175/960MHz and 2GB of Corsair Dominator DDR3-1800 @ 1692MHz (6-6-5-15), the new record is 29,147 points...

nForce 780i SLI and Tri-SLI: possible release dates?

Up until now, all we knew was that the 780i SLI chipset was scheduled to arrive “late December” – quite a setback from the original November 12 launch date. Luckily, some of the guesswork has now been eliminated by The Inquirer who cite a possible launch date for not only the 780i SLI, but also Tri-SLI. In exactly nine days time, Tri-SLI will supposedly be born – while the 780i SLI is slated for a week later on December 17th. Don’t get your hopes up though – Nvidia will apparently “change the dates when word leaks”…

Leadtek anounces 256MB 8800 GT

Looking back to the one benchmark we've seen of this board proved that if you're a lower resolution gamer, who doesn't use 16x AF, this quite a bargain. Leadtek has recently announced their version of the 256MB 8800 GT. Alongside the bundled Neverwinter Nights 2, the board has stock clocks of 600/1800 MHz, 112 stream processors and 256bit GDDR3 memory.

Nvidia prepares GeForce 9-series for February?

Nvidia is set to reportedly launch their GeForce 9-series boards after the approaching Chinese New Year (February 7, '08), according to a report on DigiTimes. As expected, the first chip to roll-out will be a high-end enthusiast part, alias the D9E. The chip will continue the current 65nm manufacturing process, as seen on the G92, and will add DX10.1 and Shader Model 4.1, as seen on the RV670. The site noted that the mid-range 55nm D9P will arrive in June.

Bug-free Phenom 2.6GHz+ samples are in the wild

If you've been keeping up, you'll know that a Translation Lookaside Buffer error causing all cores to freeze under specific circumstances is the cause of Phenom's current low clocks (as mentioned here, and here). As Fudzilla report, samples clocked at 2.6GHz and beyond are now in the wild, bug-free. This means that the higher-end Phenoms (well, one's clocked higher than 2.3GHz at that!) are on track for Q1 '08 production...

First triple-core Phenoms arriving February

If a report over at DigiTimes is to be believed, AMD will debut two Toliman-based triple-core Phenoms in February next year. The site note that the Phenom 7700 and 7600 will have core frequencies of 2.5GHz and 2.3GHz, respectively, and a TDP of 89W. DigiTimes added that two dual-core Kuma chips will also arrive "by the end of the second quarter" - namely the Phenom 6250 and 6050 which share a 65W TDP.

GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB reviewed early

Under somewhat mysterious circumstances, TweakTown has received the G92-powered 8800 GTS refresh and published the web's first review. Underneath the label "you know what to do" laid a board that comfortably outperformed the 8800 GT and HD 3870 in titles including Lost Planet: Extreme Condition DX10, Company of Heroes DX10, Crysis Demo, F.E.A.R and 3DMark 05 and 06. In comparison to the 8800 GTX and Ultra, the board is roughly two FPS ahead of the GTX, and three FPS behind the Ultra in Crysis (XP) at 1920x1200...
