AMD prepare 55nm HD 2600 successor
In an update to previous reports, AMD is planning to launch two versions of its RV635 graphics chip, XT and Pro, in January and February next year, respectively, according to sources at graphics card makers. The RV635 XT will have a core frequency of 800MHz, and 256MB GDDR3 memory, while the RV635 Pro will have a core frequency of 600MHz, and 512MB GDDR2 memory. Both will support 128-bit memory bandwidth. AMD will provide engineering samples of the RV635 Pro to its partners later this month, the sources added. AMD declined the opportunity to respond to this report saying it cannot comment on unannounced products.
The naming scheme for the boards is still unknown at this point in time. However, if they fall into the “3” series (which seems to be the case), they will most likely adopt the HD 36×0 naming scheme without a Pro or XT suffix (much like the HD 3870 and 3850).
