Penryn previews show promising results
On gaming benchmarks alone, Intel’s Wolfdale CPU outperformed the E6550 by 10% – 30%. Also worth noting is the improvement in an 1080p Mpeg-2 to Mpeg-4 encoding session in an SSE4-optimized alpha of DivX 6.6. The E6550 completed the test in 69 seconds, while the Wolfdale sample finished in 32 seconds, that’s a +115.6% increase (yes, we didn’t beleive it at first either).
Finally, Wolfdale had a lower temperature and power consumption under load than the E6550 in idle. With these unbelievable figures out in the open, one must feel some sympathy for AMD.
