Building up to the RS780 are the RS780 C, which does away with UVD (Universal Video Decoder) and DisplayPort, and below that is the RS740, which supports Hyper Transport 1, PCIe 1 and DX9. Along with the above features, the RS780 also supports TV-out, VGA and LVDS outputs – along with dual independent display controllers.

AMD is pairing the RS780 with a SB700 south bridge, which only features PCI lanes as the north bridge caters for PCIe. Also a part of the package is support for 12 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 1.1 ports, and six SATA 3.0 Gbps ports.

The RS780 is scheduled for release sometime next year, along with the familiar RD790, RD780, RX780 and RX740 of the discrete family.
