All rumours speculated in the ‘Core 2 Extreme QX6850 coming‘ story have no doubt come true. A CPU-Z screenshot clarifies that the quad-core monster has a core clock of 3GHz, a 1333MHz FSB and 8MB of level two cache. The QX6800 is only a lap behind with the same 8MB cache, and only a marginally lower clock speed of 2.93GHz. The 6850’s higher front side bus speed is hopefully compensating for the little difference between the two chips.

When adding some LN2, Coolaler managed to run the chip at 4.8GHz with a FSB of 1640MHz. When lowering the core to 4.5GHz, and pairing it all with an 8800 Ultra, the system scored over 16,000 in 3Dmark 06. With great overclocking potential, the QX6850 looks to be a successful entry to the 1333MHz FSB market.
