PCIe based Creative X-Fi coming
In Taiwan, The Inquirer learned that the card would be released around the second half of this year and apart from the PCIe interface, not include any major physical changes from the PCI counterpart – of course the software package will have its differences. “Some samples are already floating around, so do not be surprised when pictures of PCIe cards start being leaked through different forums and news sites.”
After receiving a sample TweakTown’s first impressions weren’t all that great.
The blue PCB also makes it look more like the entry level products, as the higher end cards are using a black PCB. It also seems to lack support for some of the more advanced audio features, again akin with the lower end models. Interestingly it seems to have a standard connector for case mounted audio connectors, so it would be easy to use this card with the front audio connectors on your case. At US$65, it is priced quite reasonable and it ships with Windows Vista drivers.
This will no doubt be another interesting product from Creative, we’ll just have to wait and see which way the market falls.
