Intel prepares to discontinue existing Core 2 Duo’s
The move also speeds up the adoption of Intel’s 3-series chipsets which coincidentally support 1333MHz FSB’s. Making it all happen is Intel’s new lineup of Core 2 Duo’s which are said to be around 40% cheaper than their comparable predecessor, the new E6050 family includes the E6550, E6750 and E6850 with core frequencies 2.33GHz, 2.66GHz and 3GHz respectively. On July 22 the new CPU’s swing into action along with some new entrants to Intel’s growing 3-series chipsets.
Final shipments of the discontinued Core 2 Duo family will go out during the first quarter of next year – leaving the ‘Allendale’ based E6400 as the only survivor.
