Ubisoft: PlayStation 3 is too expensive
“They have to decrease the price quite significantly,” he said. The PS3 currently has no must-have games to make it worthy of its price tag. Guillemot said Ubisoft is planning to deliver an exclusive PS3 title in Europe but declined to reveal the name. The fortunes of the machine also depend on whether Sony can sell consumers on the PS3’s next-generation Blu-Ray DVD technology, which is currently the cheapest Blu-Ray drive on the market.
Guillemot expects the extent of the decline to be linked to pricing on the PS3. The high-end unit sells for $600 in the United States, $200 higher than the top-end Xbox 360 and $350 above Nintendo’s Wii.
