Toshiba unveils revamped Gigabeat V
Toshiba’s new Gigabeat V features a 4″ (480×272) widescreen display, as opposed to the 3.5? version found in the previous model. The revamped version also comes in 40 and 80GB capacities, and weighs nearly double that of Apple’s 80GB Ipod. The Gigabeat V supports WMA, WMA 9 Lossless, MP3, WAV and WMV playback – not bad considering the Ipod doesn’t support any windows media based files. Battery life is said to be 28 hours when playing back audio and eight hours when viewing videos.
As you may recall, Microsoft’s Zune is basically a repackaged version of Toshiba’s Gigabeat S. Some have jumped to the conclusion that the new Gigabeat V foreshadows what’s to come with Microsoft’s second-generation HDD-based Zune. This likely won’t be the case as Microsoft has committed to building its next Zune from the ground up.
