Maxtor drives for the retail market will now come with a 3-year limited warranty, about time too?I say! The new three-year limited warranty applies retroactively to all Maxtor Hard Drive Kits in retail channel inventory, or purchased by consumers on or after October 1, 2006. Previously, retail-boxed drives carried only a one year limited warranty, whereas the bare drives have always included three year coverage.

RIAA are a bunch of stinky poops

You what now? This may seem far-fetched, perhaps even verging sensationalism, but the internet as we know it is under threat, and the RIAA is just one of many tools used by big business. One of the lawyers involved in defending cases bought against people by the RIAA claims that if the music industry wins a crucial case, the Internet will have to be switched off.

Intel asks VIA to stop making CPUs

Looks like Intel are in negotiations with VIA, but overall it looks a little brutal to say the least. GIANT CPU maker Intel is pressuring smaller rival Via Technologies to exit the CPU market, industry sources in Taiwan claim. In exchange, Intel will allow Via to continue making PC chipsets which use Intel’s patented technology, say the sources at PC mainboard manufacturers, who do not wish to be named. Intel and Via offices had not replied to a request for comment by the end of business hours in Taipei. The two companies typically will not comment on negotiations while they are in progress.
