Nvidia took SLI technology to a new level today by introducing support for Quad SLI.

Quad SLI features four GeForce 7800 GTX GPUs with an nForce4 SLI X16 motherboard. This technology introduced today on the forthcoming Dell XPS 600 Renegade, as part of a keynote presentation by Michael Dell at CES in Las Vegas, NV.

"Our demonstration of the first Quad SLI PC with NVIDIA is a major technology innovation that when combined with the Dell XPS 600 Renegade and the new Dell 30-inch flat panel makes true high definition gaming a reality." Said John Medica, Senior VP of Dell.

Quad SLI will allow users to run today’s most demanding games at extreme high definition resolutions including an unbelievable 2560×1600 — at silky smooth frame rates and?crank up their image quality with 32x anti aliasing and 16x anisotropic filtering and maximize shader and texture settings for what can only be described as the ultimate gaming experience.

Whether Quad SLI will bring anything dramatic to the table remains to be seen, but the potential for large increases in performance?are there, but only?once dual core CPU’s really start to get untilized. We live in a CPU limited world right now, and four GPU’s running on a single core CPU is not going to significanlty improve things, but exciting this definitely is!
